Real Worlds - Research Dossier
SWOT Analysis
Strengths: I'm much more confident doing 2D stuff, so for the sake of time I'm going to take the 2D route for both. I might do some white boxing of environments but all the final deliverables will be 2D.
Weaknesses: I'm not too crazy about sci-fi, I don't hate it, but I'm not particularly interested in it. What I normally do to really get immersed into anything is to listen to music that fits the theme. I'll try to look more into the elements of sci-fi that I do enjoy e.g. choosing factions that overlap with my other interests. Update: now that I've developed the backstories I'm a lot more invested (The Mega Man SSBU remixes (Sora et al 2018) have also been very helpful).
Opportunities: I definitely want to go into 2D concepts and character design - so choosing the 2D pathway will help build up a portfolio as well. Mantic has a graduate scheme as well and is generally open to taking new artists so this might be my way of getting a foot in the door to the industry. I am planning on doing a lot of freelance work but this might be a good backup
Threats: The 3D elements would have and the lack of interest - therefore I am taking the 2D and trying my best to be interested in it. Time management has been a consistent problem so I'm going to go with what I'm more confident/ motivated to do in order to make it easier overall. This time we have a real client/ are going to interact with them so I want to make sure I've got something to present. As well as this, I'm definitely sticking with 2D in terms of career paths.
