Week 4 - Anatomy Recap + Productive Tracing

This week we briefly recapped anatomy, and went over how to trace in a way that's useful:

Here's the anatomy/ wireframe recap with notes, just stuff about roughly how many heads tall people should be, and noting down "contrapposto" which is basically dynamic posing.

When tracing I usually just break up things into basic shapes and add some guidelines like I did for this spider:

(here I also counted how many segments the legs have)

But in this lesson the lecturer showed us a method using contour lines so we can gather more useful information from the image, to help understand it better.

For the demonstration he used Spiderman as an example, and while he was talking I quickly sketched this (no references as my laptop hadn't connected to the internet at uni yet, so the proportions might be a little off, and there's no hands).

These first two screenshots are from The Harder They Fall (Netlfix 2021)

This one is a scene from Captain America: Civil War (Marvel 2016). Spiderman's pose is more subtle here so it was a bit more difficult to get right, it looks like I forgot to use the contour lines I added when tracing the screenshot.

The last screenshot is from the D&D movie (Goldstein 2023). This one was fun to draw, although the length of the guy on the left's arm kind of broke my brain a bit, not sure why, it just looks a bit too long when I drew it, I think everything else being slightly off meant the pose didn't line up properly - it's only subtle though, the overall sketch was still successful I think.
